The Middleton Optimist Club was honored to recognize its first Student of the Month for the 2025/2026 school year.
Giancarlo Martinez Hernandez, a senior at Middleton High School, has been in the district since Kindergarten and is very grateful. "The District has a way of pushing students but always helping them along the way", he noted.
Giancarlo has been a part of the award-winning MHS band (first and second in state in 2024 and 2025, respectively). As a trumpet player, he performs with the various sections of the band and mentors other students in music. This weekend he will be part of the Honors Band concert at the Overture Center.
Giancarlo also tutors students within the National Honor Society volunteer program and is a member of the German Club. He is in his third year as a team member at the West Towne McDonald's restaurant.
Next Fall, Giancarlo hopes to enter UW-Madison as a Mechanical Engineering student and a member of the Marching Band. He attributes much of his success to his parents who "have worked really, really hard and overcome many adversities. They never give up!"
In the photo to his right are Giancarlo's mother (Abigail Hernandez), sister (Yanisha Linette Martinez Hernandez) and father (Abel Martinez).
